Basic Hospital Expense Insurance

Definition
Covers room & board plus miscellaneous hospital expenses (lab, X-ray, inpatient medicines, ICU, operating room, supplies) — usually on an indemnity basis (fixed daily amount, e.g. $200/day regardless of the actual bill). No deductible; limits on days and totals.
In plain English
It covers the hospital's THINGS, not the practitioners — the operating room, not the surgeon.
Exam tip
Covers what the HOSPITAL bills. Doctors who bill independently belong to basic surgical/physician policies.
