Field Underwriter (the Agent)

Definition
The agent/producer who INITIATES the underwriting process: proper solicitation, completing the application thoroughly, obtaining signatures, collecting the initial premium, and issuing a receipt. The producer submits the app to the home-office underwriter but does NOT issue the policy and may NOT guarantee or bind coverage.
Exam tip
The agent screens which risks are desirable, but the final decision belongs to the home-office underwriter.
