Agent (Florida Definition)
Definition
A licensed general lines agent, life agent, health agent, or title agent — an individual authorized by an insurer to be its representative and perform specific duties. The term includes an insurance producer but does NOT include a customer representative, limited customer representative, or service representative. An individual may not act as, advertise, or hold themselves out as a licensed agent unless currently licensed by the DFS AND appointed by an appropriate appointing entity.

Exam tip
Two-key rule: it takes a license (from the DFS) plus an appointment (from an insurer) before anyone can lawfully act as an agent.
