Life · Chapter 21 · Agent Training
Annuity Agent Training (4-Hour)
Definition
An agent cannot solicit annuity sales without proper training and sufficient product knowledge. As of January 1, 2024, agents selling annuities must complete a one-time, 4-hour training course — not part of continuing education, though an approved provider's course may earn CE credit. Topics: types/classifications of annuities, parties to an annuity, how contract features affect consumers, income taxation of qualified and nonqualified annuities, primary uses, and the appropriate standard of conduct, sales practices, replacement, and disclosure requirements. Agents holding a life line of authority on January 1, 2024 must finish by July 1, 2024; if they completed annuity training before January 1, 2024, they may instead complete either a new 4-hour course or an additional 1-hour course on sales practices, replacement, and disclosure. Agents obtaining a life line of authority after January 1, 2024 may not sell annuities until the training is completed.
In plain English
Four hours, one time, before you touch annuities — veterans got until July 1, 2024, and rookies can't sell until it's done.
Exam tip
Number pair: 4-hour one-time course (or 1-hour top-up for agents already annuity-trained before 2024). It is NOT a recurring CE requirement.
