Life · Chapter 21 · Group Life

Eligible Groups Under Florida Law

Definition
Florida's eligible group types: Employer-employee (full-time employees of a single employer); labor union (the union holds the policy since members change employers); trustee group (employees of two or more employers, with a trustee holding the policy); debtor group (debtors of a single creditor — credit life pays the debt at death, and coverage may never exceed the amount owed); association group (a state-licensed professional association that has existed two (2) years, was formed for a purpose other than obtaining insurance, and holds at least annual meetings — if contributory, at least one hundred (100) members must participate; if noncontributory, ALL members must be covered); and credit union members (coverage equal to the member's share balance).
In plain English
Six flavors of Florida group: boss, union, trustee, lender, association, credit union — each with its own fine print.
Exam tip
⚠️ Two testable caps: debtor-group insurance can't exceed the debt, and a contributory association plan needs 100 participating members.
