Life · Chapter 21 · Group Provisions
Designated Beneficiary / Facility of Payment (Group)
Definition
A Florida group life policy makes any sum due at a covered person's death payable to the designated beneficiary. If no designated beneficiary is living at the member's death, the insurer may (subject to the policy) pay part of the sum — not exceeding $2,000 — to any person who appears entitled to it because they incurred funeral or other expenses incident to the member's last illness or death.
In plain English
No living beneficiary? Whoever paid the funeral bill can get up to $2,000 straight from the insurer.
Exam tip
The facility-of-payment cap is $2,000 — for funeral/last-illness expenses when no named beneficiary survives.
