Notice of Claim
Definition
Mandatory provision requiring the policyowner to notify the insurer of a loss within 20 days of the occurrence or start of disability, or as soon as reasonably possible. For long disability claims (payable for at least 2 years), the insurer may require proof the disability continues every 6 months.
In plain English
Tell the company within 20 days. On a long disability claim, check in twice a year to show you're still disabled.
Exam tip
Unless the question flags a disability claim or special circumstances, the answer is 20 days.
