Taxation of Policy Dividends

Definition
Dividends are tax-exempt (a return of excess premium). Dividends above total premiums paid are taxable. Interest earned on accumulated dividends is taxable each year. In a MEC, dividends are taxable unless used to buy paid-up additions.
