Continuing Education (CE) Requirements

Licensees complete CE as part of license renewal every two (2) years: a 4-hour law and ethics update course specific to the license held (multi-license holders: specific to at least one), PLUS elective hours — 20 hours if licensed less than 6 years; 16 hours if licensed 6+ years; 6 hours for customer representatives (not licensed as life/health agents); and only 6 hours for those licensed 25+ years who are a CLU or CPCU or hold a Bachelor of Science in risk management or insurance. (The course's review notes state the same rule as totals including ethics: 24 / 20 / 10 / 10.) Excess hours carry forward one compliance period; extensions for good cause max one (1) year; active-duty military may request a waiver. Uncertified CE lets the Department terminate or refuse to renew the agent's appointment. A nonresident licensee is exempt if their home state's CE is met — but must meet Florida's if the home state has none.

Every two years: a 4-hour ethics refresher plus electives that shrink as your experience grows.
