Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment (FL)
Definition
The annual Open Enrollment Period runs October 15 – December 7, with elections effective January 1. Age 65+: an insurer may not deny an application or discriminate in pricing based on health status if the application comes before or within six (6) months of the first month enrolled in Medicare Part B — and every Medicare supplement policy the insurer sells must be offered to qualifying applicants. Under 65: Florida residents get a no-conditions, no-discrimination enrollment window if (1) eligible for Medicare through disability or end-stage renal disease — per the note, with the coverage request made six months before the first month of Medicare coverage while enrolled in Part B — or (2) enrolled in Part B and requesting coverage during the sixty (60) days following termination of group health coverage.
In plain English
New to Part B? For six months, every Medigap plan on the carrier's shelf must take you at standard rates, no health questions that matter.
Exam tip
⚠️ Three different 6-month facts live in Medigap-land: the pre-ex limit, the 65+ open-enrollment window, and the replacement in-force threshold. Don't cross the streams.
