Health · Chapter 18 · Exclusions & Limits

Common Health Policy Exclusions

Definition
Losses health policies routinely exclude: war/act of war, self-inflicted injuries, aviation as pilot/crew or noncommercial flying, military service (with possible suspension provision), extended foreign travel/residence, suicide or drug use, hernia as an accidental injury, riots and felonies, occupational losses covered by workers' compensation or VA care, cosmetic/experimental surgery, routine vision and dental, and anything not medically necessary. The exclusions section is NOT on the policy face page.
Example
Diedra's policy covers appendix removal — but not a "proactive" removal with no medical need. A ballplayer hit in the face CAN get vision/dental work covered, because it resulted from an accident.
Exam tip
Cosmetic, vision, and dental flip to COVERED when made medically necessary by an accident.
