Free Look / Right to Examine (Health)
Definition
Gives the policyholder typically 10 days from DELIVERY to examine the policy and return it for a full premium refund. Policies sold by direct mail and certain products such as Medicare supplements get an extended 30-day free look. Notice appears prominently on the policy's face page.
Example
Policy delivered January 27: day 1 is January 28, so the 10-day free look ends February 6.
Exam tip
Count from delivery, not application or issue — and start counting the day AFTER delivery.
