Replacing a Health Policy

Definition
Health policy replacement is rare, but when the agent's report shows a replacement, most states require consumer-protection procedures: discussing the new, possibly higher premium (new age, new medical conditions), identifying pre-existing conditions that may be limited under the new policy, and disclosing new benefits, coverage limitations, and exclusions.
In plain English
Swapping health policies restarts the underwriting clock — older, sicker, and newly excluded is a real possibility.
Exam tip
EXAM TIP: the MOST important consideration when replacing medical insurance is the exclusions or limitations on the NEW policy.
