Life · Chapter 21 · Conversion
Conversion on Termination of Eligibility (31 Days)
Definition
Florida group life policies must contain a conversion privilege: conversion to an individual policy for a specified period, with no evidence of insurability required. If coverage on a member or covered dependent ceases because of employment termination, that person is entitled to an individual life policy from the insurer without evidence of insurability — the first premium is due within thirty-one (31) days after termination, and the premium is the insurer's customary rate for an individual policy (at the person's then situation).
In plain English
Lose the job, keep the coverage: 31 days to convert to an individual policy, no medical questions — but at regular individual rates, not the cheap group rate.
Exam tip
⚠️ No evidence of insurability, but ALSO no group pricing: the converted policy is issued at the insurer's customary individual rate.
