Short-Term vs Long-Term Disability
Definition
STD: weekly benefits, minimal waiting periods (7/10/14 days), benefit periods up to 2 years max (group STD often 13–26 weeks; covers childbirth). LTD: monthly benefits, benefit periods of 2 years to age 65 (rarely lifetime), longer elimination periods (e.g., 180 days).
