Life · Chapter 5 · Exclusions

Suicide Clause

Definition
Life policies customarily exclude suicide for the first 2 years from issue. Within that period → insurer refunds premiums (minus loans), no death benefit. After it → full death benefit paid.
Exam tip
The 2-year suicide window is a policy term, not a Florida statute — Florida law (F.S. 627.463) says an exclusion can be asserted at any time, even after the policy is incontestable. Suicide is the ONLY exclusion that 'falls off,' and reinstatement does NOT restart it. Don't confuse with the incontestable clause (also 2 years).
